Penny’s Points!
Just before we ended last term the Cubs held their District Cross Country Competition. The Easter holidays arrived and Chaldon Cubs went to Camp and there was a District Scout Camp to the New Forest.
The new ‘summer’ term commenced (despite what the weather was trying to make us think!) and at the end of the first week back was our Annual St George’s Day Parade. This year we were holding an open-air service (which had been requested by many) and unfortunately, with rain threatening for the afternoon the decision was made to parade and renew promises rather than parade and hold the lengthier service that had been planned. Typically, it didn’t rain and the sun even shone! A collection was made in aid of the Westway Centre.
Thank you to All who helped in the planning and setting up of the day.
As we progress into the summer term, we hope the sun will start to shine and allow us to be outside in drier and warmer conditions. With District and County events on the horizon, I look forward to hearing all about them. AGM season is going to be getting underway, and I take this opportunity to remind everyone of the District AGM date – 26 June, 7.45 pm at Soper Hall, Harestone Valley Road. All are welcome, so please put the date in your diaries and make an effort to attend.
In the next couple of weeks, I hope to kick off the search for a new District Youth Commissioner as our current DYC Maisie is due to ‘retire’ in July as she will be too old! I will save her blushes and not say how old that is! Details of the recruitment process will be sent to GSLs, the District team and put on the District website, but please feel free to pass it on to anyone who is interested. If you wish to be specifically emailed the info, please let me know.
A new addition to the news section is ‘message’ space, which I would like to be a regular feature going forwards. It will be a space allocated to put messages of thanks, congratulations or well done to anyone who has participated in Scouting, helped with a Scouting activity or event, or someone who has achieved something, or done well. It can be anyone from a leader, a young person, a parent helper, a Group Exec member, a local community member who hosted or helped with something – literally anyone connected to Scouting or helping Scouting happen! Please send all messages to Susan Dobson using the Editor Recipient option on the Contact Page.
