All Scouts, Cubs and Beavers are back in action in Woldingham after a lovely summer break. To start the new year of activity, UK Chief Scout, Dwayne Fields, reflected on his first year in the role, highlighted by:

  • Supporting local teams
  • Championing volunteers
  • Celebrating young people
  • Raising awareness
  • Leading with kindness
  • Giving young people a chance to belong

These are all things we are proud to champion in 1st Woldingham Scout Group – perhaps Dwayne will come and visit our young people one day!

Scouts kicked off their session on a sunny Saturday, embarking on their Pioneer badges by making spirit burners. They learnt important science skills as well as fire safety and even recycling, as the base of the burners was created using recycled drink cans. Some burners were more successful than others, but there is no result – or fun – without trying.

Beavers have started on the My Skills Challenge Award. They taught each other indoor games, learned the Beaver Song, and then went to the Glebe to play games and make the most of the remaining light evenings.

September is the month of our annual watersports event at Mercers Park, followed by activities and camping at Roverdene. How many toasted marshmallows will be consumed around the campfire this year? These adventurous highlights on the calendar provide safe and supportive environments for children to increase their independence, confidence and outdoor skills. With huge thanks to the leaders and parent volunteers who support these events.

Dwayne Fields proudly holds the title of the UK's 11th Chief Scout

An explorer, adventurer and TV presenter, Dwayne's been seen in BAFTA nominated Channel 5 series Race to the Pole, on BBC Springwatch, Countryfile, National Geographic and Disney+.
