Following a short pause in our activities for half term, 1st Woldingham Scout Group were back in action towards the end of February with a variety of activities. Working towards their Teamwork Challenge Badge, the Beavers organised themselves into teams of three and constructed seriously impressive balloon-powered cars made from sticks, paper straws, old CDs and of course balloons!

Meanwhile, the Cubs and Scouts focused on their Naturalist and Navigator Badges. As you may remember, in 2022, 1st Woldingham Scouts worked incredibly hard to establish the Woldingham Parish Boundary Path to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee and lately have been working hard to maintain it! Since our Cubs and Scouts love the opportunity to stay active in the fresh air of our local countryside, they gathered up with gusto their gloves and secateurs and set off to clear winter debris and chop away encroaching brambles from the path. If you haven’t already explored this path, we encourage you to dust off your walking boots and give it a go as it is a fantastic walking route. It wasn’t all work though on this particular Saturday! Our young people enjoyed completing a nature-inspired scavenger hunt and worked together to identify the names of birds and plants. They then stopped to set up Triangas and prepared and enjoyed a well-deserved hot chocolate! What better way to spend a Saturday morning?!

In early March the Scout Hut was a hive of activity hosting all three sections. The Cubs worked towards their World Challenge Award and made a community map upon which they drew places around the village. They then thought carefully about their personal wishes for our community infrastructure and put them on a lunar wishing tree. It was a wonderful activity to encourage our young people to think about community at such a young age.

Meanwhile, it was the Scouts’ week to don their chef’s hats, tighten their apron strings and take up their wooden spoons! They set about baking and decorating biscuits and cookies and the results were absolutely delicious. How surprising it was though to see that the enthusiasm for devouring these tasty treats did not extend to the washing up! ;0)
