Just before the October half term holidays, 1st Woldingham Scout Group met up at our Scout HQ to practise their crafting and gardening skills. They made a beautiful poppy wreath in preparation for Remembrance Sunday and also planted some bulbs, the results of which you will be able to appreciate outside the Scout Hut in spring time! At the same time, some of our Cubs were lucky enough to be embarking on a high-seas adventure! Well, to be entirely accurate, it was a variable water level canal adventure but it was just as exciting! They spent a wonderful weekend navigating the Hilmorton and Braunston locks, learning the art and science of narrow boating. Some of the invaluable skills they were learning included steering boats, operating locks and team building. Lock ahoy!

After the October half term holiday our Scout members enjoyed a visit to the East Surrey Museum as part of their Local History badge and were delighted to see a display of Woldingham, which included some photos of Woldingham Scouts from the 1950s. Meanwhile, our Beavers and Cubs were busy turning plastic bottles into beautiful red poppies, which can be admired at the front of our Scout Hut HQ. The poppy and wreath-making activities provided a great opportunity for our youngest generation to learn about the meaning behind the poppy appeal. Importantly, these activities prompted interesting discussions about war, past and present, and why we should remember those men and women who gave their lives for our freedom and our country.

I want the public to know how Scouting continues to open young people’s eyes to a world of extraordinary promise and possibilities.'
