1st Woldingham Scout Group News

Date: 16th Jun 2025 Author: Susan Dobson

May was an eventful month for the 1st Woldingham Scout Group, filled with various activities and achievements in between the bank holidays and half term, with sunshine and showers as spring officially came to an end.

This year we are pleased to announce that the RF May Adventure Award has been awarded jointly to Joseph H and Teddy C, who will be able to experience a sailing or watersports course at Mercers Park. Well done, Joseph and Teddy.

The Beavers were very creative this month, working on their Experiment badge. To their great delight, this involved magic ice cream, making slime and flying kites – something for everyone to enjoy, including the leaders! The kites flew high on the Glebe and were a huge success. Our Cubs achieved their first aid badge after two sessions, where they practised – with great enthusiasm – dressing wounds and creating arm slings. All the Cubs listened carefully to instructions and certainly earned their badges with their new skills.

Scouts were busy as they started the Space/Astronautics badge and, with lovely views of the sky available up in Woldingham and the surrounding areas, they will no doubt enjoy their learning throughout the year. Then the tomahawks came out for a supervised throwing session. Using the sturdy wooden target created in previous sessions, this was a good challenge for focus, aim and getting the right throw to embed the tomahawk in its target!

Thank you, as ever, to our fantastic leaders and volunteers who help to make 1st Woldingham Scout Group run smoothly behind the scenes and in every session. As we head into the final weeks before the summer holiday break, we look forward to our AGM and celebrating all the achievements before we come back refreshed for more adventures and community work in September.
