The Scouts, Cubs and Beavers had a very vibrant and busy September. Firstly, we would like to say a huge thank you to the local community who supported our car wash and pop-up café. The turnout was very encouraging, and over 50 cars were washed, with plenty of bacon butties and cake being served up. With thanks to our sponsor: Christian Cars on the Crescent – kindly donating our car-wash materials. The team had a fun day and enjoyed the challenge, raising important money for the running costs of our Scout hut and grounds.

Our annual watersports day at Mercers Park was a great chance for everyone to gain skills and confidence on the water. (Perhaps a few instructors went overboard as part of the fun?) We are lucky to have such a great facility so close. This was followed by activities and camping at Roverdene, where many joined either for the full camping experience or for an evening around the campfire, preparing to tackle sleepovers in the future.

But the adventure didn’t stop there – we also went rock-climbing and the weather was very supportive, allowing everyone to enjoy the day and the views from the top of the rocks. This can be a daunting challenge (even for adults!), but everyone showed great resilience as well as enthusiasm.

Back in Woldingham, our regular weekly meetings have been full of activity. In Beavers, investitures took place to welcome the many new joiners – great to see! We completed the Skills Challenge with painted salt dough creations. The Cubs used our lovely back garden at the hut for games: three Cubs coordinating on the giant jump rope took plenty of coordination. Scouts have been learning the skills for the Pioneer badge: rope whipping, making tripods and other pioneering camp designs. Then, later in the month, creativity kicked in as we all made our Guy Fawkes.
