1st Woldingham Scout Group was raring to go as they kick-started 2026 with a bang after a restful holiday break. The whole unit was put into action with a huge operation to cut back the laurel hedge on the grounds, supported by gardener Ben. The voluntary effort on essential grounds maintenance preserved funds for the Group, allowing us to continue investing in supporting our young people through engaging and varied events.

Beavers continued working towards their Creative and Communicator badges. Then they tackled the Teamwork badge, demonstrating an important core skill, and enjoyed fun dancing together.

Cubs had an adventurous start to the year with their Backwoods Cooking badge, with treats being prepared in the Scout Hut and then cooked on a fire pit in the garden. Gloves and scarves were needed on a chilly winter evening, even with a roaring campfire, but the tasty results were worth it. Perhaps unsurprisingly, any activity involving food is a popular one!

Which is why the Scouts were very enthusiastic about their morning-tea challenge, making both the scones and the jam from scratch, assisted by Young Leaders. Ready, steady, bake! Even parents were lucky to receive a nice Saturday morning treat from their Scouts on collection, so thank you to Scout Leader Bennie and Jana for thinking of the whole Scouting family!

Finally, continuing this foodie theme, keep an eye out on our social media and on the Woldingham village notice boards this month for our tasty Easter fundraiser.  Meanwhile, we look forward to spring arriving in the village in all its glory.
