Penny’s Points
As we head towards the Easter break, our Dreys, Colonies, Packs, Troops, Units and Groups have been finishing badge work, and planning camps, sleepovers and events. All in all, it has been a busy term! And yes, we have a couple of weeks break and off we go again. The lighter days and evenings with (hopefully) warmer temperatures, will give us all the opportunity to get outdoors more and more.
This term I have been to 1st Whyteleafe Scout Group to present three Chief Scout’s Bronze Awards, and I know there are also Chief Scout’s Silver and Gold Awards being finalised across the District, which I am looking forward to presenting. We may also have the presentation of our first Chief Scout’s Acorn Awards being awarded next term, so exciting times!
Close to the start of next term we will have our annual St George’s Day Parade, and during next term there are events on the horizon across the District; the Scout sections have a football competition being hosted by 1st Whyteleafe Scout Group in May, the Beaver Colonies have a Scrapheap Challenge and the Cubs have SCRAM to look forward to. I hope we have lots of news on each of these events in future newsletters.
From behind the scenes, I can report our annual census figures are back and look very pleasing. I have received information from County regarding our expected growth for the next year. Our share of the projected County growth target is 21.7 young people – yep point 7 of a person is going to be interesting – so let’s aim for 22 and beat the target! I will be contacting GSLs in the near future to provide them with relevant information for their Groups, so they can work with their Group Executive Committees and leader teams to expand and develop the Groups to help us achieve our District target.
The plea is still to ask all adults to check their Compass record to ensure their email address is correct, and GSLs to do some housekeeping and check all adults on Compass assigned to their Group are still current/live.
Adult training – you may have received an email and/or messages from myself, District or County training personnel about validating or completing training. Please DO NOT ignore these communications! Often what needs doing is very simple, and by working with us you can get things completed and progress towards achieving your wood badge. If you have any training queries, questions or issues, please get in touch with Pam Marshall-Jones or myself (Contact us) to see if we can assist or sort it out. If we can’t help, we will know someone, or somehow it can be solved, so please do not worry or stress about it, just contact us!
