Kandersteg International Scout Camp 2023
Six Woldingham scouts set off this summer to join 600 other Surrey Scouts at Kandersteg International Scout Camp, Switzerland. We had the most memorable and incredible trip, starting with a 20-hour coach journey. We learnt so much about ourselves, the people around us and what we are capable of, and we also made lots of new friends along the way.
Over seven days we were very active and enjoyed tobogganing down a mountain, swimming in the local pool and jumping off the diving boards. We visited the most beautiful lake called Oeschinen Lake, walked up a mountain and witnessed the most stunning views. Visits included the Gruyere Cheese Factory, where we learnt all about how they make their famous and delicious cheese. Next, we visited the Cailler chocolate factory, ate some wonderful chocolate and learnt all about the fascinating history of chocolate. We went on the most impressive high ropes course any of us had seen before, and later explored the charming town of Interlaken. On our last day and a definite highlight, we went white water rafting down the bluest river, through the capital city of Bern.
We were extremely lucky to be there at the centenary of Kandersteg International Scout Camp and were able to celebrate with Scouts from all over the world, on such an important date in Scouting history. Thank you so much to everyone in Surrey Scouts who made it possible and thank you so much to our leaders who took such great care of us.
