1st Woldingham rise to the challenge
1st Woldingham Scout Group’s members have enjoyed yet another month of fun, fresh air and adventures. For our first meet up after the summer holidays we gathered at Mercers Country Park to enjoy some exciting watersports activities. Our Group showed tremendous courage and resilience as they explored the open water of the mighty Mercer’s Lake in their dinghies, kayaks and paddleboards. The instructors taught them different skills through experimentation and games, and the young people quickly improved their confidence on the water. Everyone also engaged in a team-building activity building rafts, which they then successfully paddle-raced across the lake!
This month, whilst the Beavers have been busy working towards their Navigator badges, the Cubs and Scouts started working towards the Pioneer Challenge badge, where they impressed themselves with their amazing rope-making skills! Our Group have also been practising their gardening and maintenance skills. With trowels and secateurs in hand, they carried out some much-needed garden maintenance at Scout Hut HQ, which now boasts a beautifully trimmed hedge. They also spent several hours clearing and maintaining the Jubilee Scout path that we were so proud to have established last year.
Towards the end of September, our Group returned once again to the mighty Harrison’s Rocks for a day of climbing and bouldering. It is always a pleasure to see our young people conquer this lofty sandstone crag with such tremendous courage, determination and perseverance. Some members were new to climbing and scrambling whilst others had returned to challenge themselves with more difficult climbs. Well done everyone for rising to the challenge and reaching new heights!
