Since last month’s report, 1st Woldingham Scout Group have been a busy bunch indeed! In early March all three sections gathered at Scout Hut HQ and set to work making some beautiful Mother’s Day cards and splendid paper flowers, but their crafty creations didn’t stop there. After much measuring and mixing the Group had cooked up some delicious chocolate fudge treats and not only that, they made presentation boxes to go with them. Many lucky mothers and carers in and around Woldingham received a delightful surprise on Mother’s Day morning.

The following week it was time for us to attend one of our favourite community activities, the village litter pick! Working towards their Community Impact badges, our Beavers, Cubs and Scouts donned their high-vis bibs and set off in family groups with litter picker pincers and rubbish bags in hand. Having covered various routes around the village, they returned with an enormous amount of rubbish and then enjoyed some well-deserved cake! Well done and thank you to everyone for working so hard! It makes such a difference to get rid of all of that litter. That same evening our wonderful volunteer leaders organised a Beaver and Cub camp in the Scout Hut! The children enjoyed various craft activities, an exciting evening exploration of Woldingham by torchlight and a film before bed. Everyone had a great time and the leaders enjoyed a well-deserved nap on Sunday afternoon!

On Easter Sunday our young people set off along the footpaths and pavements of Woldingham to complete our annual Easter egg trail, ultimately in search of the trove of eggs kindly gifted by the Easter Bunny! Successful navigation is a fundamental skill required for safe and exciting adventures and this was a great opportunity to practise!

Finally, before we broke up for the Easter holidays, some of our Group gathered again for another community-focused activity and joined the St Paul’s Church garden Spring Tidy.

I want the public to know how Scouting continues to open young people’s eyes to a world of extraordinary promise and possibilities.'
