12th Caterham Sponsored Silence
We all know how hard it is to keep Cubs from being quiet, even for two minutes, but at 12th Caterham we managed thirty minutes of silence during one of our Cub meetings.
In response to the recent Earthquake in Turkey and Syria, and as part of the Personal Challenge badge that was to be set by a leader, it was decided that the Cubs would hold a thirty-minute sponsored silence.
Throughout the Spring term, we held practices of five or ten minutes of silence, and even though they understood the goal, they were not successful! It was starting to look like the challenge would be more than we could chew. However, on the day, the group surprised all that were involved.
On 22 March 2023, for thirty minutes you could drop a pin and hear it hit the floor. The Cubs sat either reading books, doing puzzles, even a chess game and other craft activities. As a result of this challenge, 12th Caterham has managed to raise just under £700 for the Red Cross – Turkey and Syria Appeal. As a leader, I am proud of what the group was able to do for a good cause and congratulate all that took part.
